Karen Weber - Secretary
Board member whose husband & son died of cardiomyopathy
"My mission is to help further the diagnosis and educational awareness of this silent but treatable disease in young athletes."
Karen grew up in Abilene, Texas and earned an education degree from the University of Texas in Austin. In 1993 she and her husband moved from Beaumont, Texas to their Texas Hill Country ranch outside of Johnson City.
Currently she is involved in the community of Johnson City as a board member of the Woman’s Club, North Blanco County Library District and the LBJ National Historical Park in Austin. She is involved in her church as a ministry leader and a board member for the Austin Graduate School of Theology and Championship Heart Foundation. She is also on the leadership team with Community Bible Study as a children’s leader.
Karen has 3 children, their spouses and 5 grandchildren who live in Austin and Waco. Hobbies include memberships in Garden Club of America, Johnson City Garden Club, Book Club and Library “Dreamers”, an outreach to the community through educational programs. Karen spends a good deal of pleasurable time reading, traveling with friends, gardening and cooking for large crowds.
Her reasons for being involved with Championship Heart are personal. Because her husband (age 46) and son (age 27) both died of HCM and a living daughter has been diagnosed with DCM she has a strong desire to see that the public is educated on the prevention of sudden deaths caused by this silent disease.
